My name is Sheila. My partner Susanne and I recently moved to Europe and we now call Muelheim, Germany our home. I wanted to somehow record our move, the new experiences we are having; basically what we are going through in making a new home in a different country. Through posting and photos, I hope to let freinds and family see our journey and also to provide other people going through similar experiences a space to connect and share.
A little moving herstory,
Back in Oregon we made a 5 year plan, we were going to move to Europe by 5 years. We decided first to move to Florida, after much searching and deliberation, Southeast Florida because it is so cosmopolitan and warm, it seemed like a good place to get ready to move to Europe. Plus I would be nearer to my family on the east coast for a while. So in summer 2005 we packed up a 29ft Uhaul and with a our car on a trailer in tow, we headed for Florida. We spent 6 days on the road (with the cats) and rolled into Coral Springs Florida on the 30th of August, found a place to live, signed the paperwork and around 9pm that same night moved into our new apartment. We found jobs shortly thereafter.
Time flew by and soon it was time to think about Europe, so after another whirlwind move and here we are! I gotta say that we both miss Florida immensely. There no palm trees here, no tropical breezes, warm turquoise oceans, spicy foods and we miss our friends.
But Susanne gets to be near her parents, we get to make more friends, experience different cultures and I get to do something that 20 years ago I would have never dreamed I would actually get to do.
